Research plan
To investigate into the topic, I conducted both primary and secondary research using the research plan. The resources used were then evaluated using OPVL. The primary resource includes the following: Interview, survey and lecture, and the secondary resources include digital articles, YouTube video tutorials and online courses.
Criteria
My final product was to help the targeted audience of children aged 3-6 years old study at home. To fully evaluate the success of my product, I created a criterion. The 4 main aspects that I decided to assess are Aesthetics, Content, Audience, and functionality. Aesthetics involves how the product looks, if it has the right color scheme and appropriate layout; Content which involves whether the product contains the correct and accurate information; Audience refers to whether the product is created for the targeted audience; Functionality involves whether the product does what it was designed for.
Detail planning for product
To plan the product I created a design specifications, with the use of the design specification as seen below I created design ideas and testing them against the design specification to which design was the best. After testing all the designs I created a final design idea that is seen below which includes the designs ideas for the different pages and the design for the logo of the app.
Design Specification |
Design Specification |
The product must use language that is comprehendible for the target audience (3–6-year old’s). |
This is so that the target audience can use the product with no difficulty in understanding what is said on the product. |
The app must have a strong use of a color scheme making the app vibrant. |
This is so that the target audience is attracted towards using the application more. |
The app must at least 4 different type of games with different types of interactions. |
This is so that the target audience will learn to interact with new games developing new skills. |
The app must have at least 4 different games that cover different topics/subjects. |
This is so that the target audience can learn multiple topics and not just one or two. |
The app must be accessible on both the play store (Android) and app store (IOS). |
This is so that the target audience can access the app with any device. |
The app must display the questions on shuffle so the questions are not repeated in the same order. |
This is so that when the user repeats the game and the questions are not given in the same order not memorized by the user. |
The app must have 1 image on the different pages of the app. |
This is because the target audience would learn better with images. |
Product testing (against criteria & design specification)
After creating my product, I evaluated the end product using the different strands in the criteria and the design specification that was made before. After doing a thorough evaluation of the product, the product received an overall grade of /8.
